UTZ CERTIFIED Good Inside is a sustainability program for coffee, cocoa and tea. It trains farmers how to produce professionally and sustainably, improving their quality of life, environment and products. UTZ means ‘good’ in the Mayan language Quiché. The UTZ CERTIFIED program trains farmers to become better businessmen. The results: better and constant product quality and yield, less costs and lower environmental impact, plus improved livelihoods. Sustainably grown and traceable products provide a better market position for farmers. This professional farming gives the assurance of ‘good inside’ quality products, grown with care for people and the environment. This means added value for the whole supply chain.
Since its foundation in 2002, UTZ CERTIFIED has become one of the leading coffee sustainability programs worldwide and is now a multi-commodity program including cocoa, tea and palm oil with the ambition to expand into other products in the coming years. Leading companies such as Ahold, Sara Lee, Mars, IKEA and Nestlé work with the UTZ CERTIFIED Good Inside sustainability label. UTZ CERTIFIED is headquartered in Amsterdam with representatives in the US, Japan and Switzerland, and works closely with its partner network in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
